The last days are very clearly laid out for any bible believer in the prophecies of scripture.  Jesus in the scriptures gave a very pointed warning about the time directly prior to his return:

And as it was in the days of Noe (Noah), so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” ~ Luke 17:26-30

This is a very telling prophecy of our Savior, that the times directly prior to his return will be just as the times in Noah’s day, and just as the times directly prior to the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah.  In order to understand this warning fully, we must look into the details of these stories to see the condition of the people prior to both of these events.  When you consider the times of Noah, this was a man that was commanded by God to build a giant boat on land among his peers who constantly laughed at him and thought he was in plain English “nuts.”  The people of Noah’s time transgressed God’s laws and it’s precepts.  They are described in Genesis:

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” ~ Genesis 6:5

“And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” ~ Genesis 6:13

Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” ~ 1 Peter 3:20

In contrast, we are told the following about Noah:

“These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” ~ Genesis 6:9

“But with thee will I establish my covenant ~ Genesis 6:18

“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.” ~ Genesis 6:22

“And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” ~ Genesis 7:1

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” ~ Hebrews 11:7

Noah had to of received some clear instruction from God- especially as seen below where he understood the difference between clean and unclean beasts:

“And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.” ~ Genesis 8:20

So you can see that in the time of Noah, there were two types of flesh on earth, the majority which were “disobedient” to God and whose thoughts were continually evil, and the minority- Noah and his family who were obedient to God and were found to be righteous.  We can conclude from the prophecy of Jesus, that in the end of days there will be those that are obedient to God according to everything He has commanded by faith in Jesus, and those that are disobedient to God, carrying consant evil thoughts and thoughts of violence.  We can also conclude that it is a very small number of people (a remnant) that will be found living in obedience to God, just as in Noah’s time where only 8 were saved.  Scripture also indicates that God was “longsuffering” in the time of Noah while he waited for the ark to be built,  to save Noah’s family.  He held the judgment of the wicked back (120 years), until Noah was ready.  Today God is also longsuffering towards those he has chosen to become obedient to him through Jesus.  The judgment of the wicked is at hand.  Jesus indicated the severity of the condition of men found in the end when he said:

“When the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?” ~ Luke 18:8

By faith Noah believed, and in his actions was found obedient to God, even moved by fear of the coming judgment.  This is not a common condition today.  Those that bring a message of repentance through Jesus and obedience to God’s commandments are thought to be fools, are mocked or are just plain ignored even by today’s Christians.  The Gospel has been distorted, teachings of grace have been twisted, evil men have claimed false authority over people on earth, idolatry is rampant and obedience to God’s commandments is thought of as ludicrous and legalistic.  Evil thoughts and actions are ruling these times under the disguise of piety, holiness and good deeds carrying evil hidden intentions.  As in the times of Noah, can be found the condition of man today.  Now let’s look to Sodom and Gomorrah.

This story of Sodom and Gomorrah can be found in Genesis 18-19.  This is the story of Lot, during the time of Abraham, who was saved from the fiery destruction of these two cities.  God explains very clearly why he destroyed the city and judged so harshly:

“And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know” ~ Genesis 18:20-21

“Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.” ~ Ezekiel 16:49-50

“Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.” ~ Jude 1:7-8

Sin as we know from scripture means “disobedience to God’s law.” We can also see in the verse from Ezekiel a more specific description- pride, fulness of bread, idleness, giving nothing to the poor and needy, haughty….does any of this sound familiar?  Jude goes on to mention their fornication, going after strange flesh ie- homosexuality, the list goes on and on.  Does this sound like the condition of man today?  Abraham on the other hand was found to be righteous, “keeping the way of the Lord”:

“Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” ~ Genesis 18:18-19

The straw that broke the camel’s back in Sodom, was when God sent two angels disguised as men into the city to retrieve Lot and his family before the coming destruction.  Lot met the two men, and begged them to stay with him in his home.  The story continues:

“But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him” ~ Genesis 19:4-6

Basically, these men surrounded the house and were demanding the angels disguised as men to come out, so that they could have sex with them.  This was a threat of homosexual gang rape towards the angels of God.  As we know, this didn’t end pretty- rather the angels blinded the crowd, Lot and his family were rushed out of the city, and fiery destruction immediatly followed to the point that nothing will even grow to this day at the site where Sodom and Gomorrah once stood.  Again with this story, the condition of the people was one of complete disregard for the commands and will of God the Creator.  Sin (disobedience to God’s commandments) was rampant in these cities, and there was only one man and his family found to be righteous in Sodom.  Again, today’s condition mirrors the condition of those in the time of Noah, and those in the time of Sodom- a society with complete disregard for God’s commandments, statutes and judgments- A society that matches the description in the book of 2 Timothy when referencing the people of the last days:

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ~ 2 Timothy 3:1-7

Peter Also warned:

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” ~ 2 Peter 3:3-7

Here Peter tells us of “scoffers” who are ignorant that the earth and the heavens and the waters were created by the word of God.  They also are ignorant of the fact, or just deny that the story of Noah and the flooding of the earth ever happened.  The fact is, the heaven and the earth was created by the word of God, not by the falsly created man-made theory of “evolution”. The story of Noah which was confirmed by Jesus himself and the Apostles actually happened, as did the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Their remains can be seen even to this day- see the “Is The Bible True” page of this site.  Don’t be fooled by todays scoffers, foolish men who show no regard for the word of God.  The warnings of Jesus are clear, as are the warnings of Peter and Paul.  Those that bring this warning today are labeled as “alarmists.”  Please don’t forget, Noah too was an alarmist in his day yet no one took it seriously and all but 8 souls perished.  The main point of these warnings given by Jesus, is to show us that the day of the Lord will come suddenly and unexpected to destroy those that disregard the laws and will of God.  He also warns us of the condition of the people that were destroyed in Noah’s and Lot’s time.  Don’t make the mistake of underestimating this warning.  We encourage you to repent, and return to obedience to the commandments of God through faith in Jesus Christ before this swift distruction comes upon the earth, a destruction that no flesh will escape.
