In the closing days of this earth’s history, we are reminded by Moses:
“And the Lord shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the Lord shall lead you. And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.” ~ Deuteronomy 4:27-31
Here Moses reminds the Israelites that in the latter days- in our days when tribulation comes- if we turn to the Father and are obedient unto his voice he will be merciful to us. The covenant with the fathers still stands in the end, in the latter days. To understand what Moses is referring to, notice that he uses the phrase “obedient unto his voice.” When ever did the Father use his own voice to instruct the ancient Israelites? There was an occasion where all of the Israelites were able to hear the voice of Yahweh. When the 10 commandments were originally given at Mount Sinai, they were spoken with Yahweh’s own voice:
“And God spake all these words, saying….(the ten commandments)” ~ Exodus 20:1-17
“Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness. And the Lord spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice. And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.” ~ Deuteronomy 4:10-13
The people were so frightened by the voice of Yahweh that they asked that Moses speak to him only- they were afraid.
“And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.” ~ Exodus 20:18-21
We are instructed by Moses, that in the latter days, if we turn to Yahweh, and become obedient to his voice he will not forsake or destroy us, but will remember the covenant he made with the fathers. What covenant is this that he speaks of?
“Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine” ~ Exodus 19:5
“If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.” ~ Leviticus 26:3-4
“But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.” ~ Jeremiah 7:23
The covenant involves obedience to Yahweh’s commandments, statutes, judgments etc. We know this because He spoke also of breaking the covenant:
“But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.” ~ Leviticus 26:14-16
The covenant for the “latter times” is known as the “New Covenant” with the house of Israel that was ushered in with the sacrifice of Christ:
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” ~ Jeremiah 31:31-33
“For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people” ~ Hebrews 8:8-10
Both the Old and New covenants involve the laws of Yahweh. Under the Old Covenant, Yahweh’s law was not found in the hearts of the people, and for this reason they constantly disobeyed His commandments, statutes and judgments. Under the New Covenant, Yahweh’s law is written into the heart of a repentant believer in Yeshua, and they obey the laws, statutes and judgments of Yahweh from the heart. We encourage all to heed the warning of Moses, to return to obedience to the voice of the Father through faith in the Son who was our example walking in perfect obedience to the laws of Yahweh. We now live in the latter days where time is very limited. We pray that all of mankind will seek His will through Yeshua our savior and redeemer today.
“My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” ~ Psalm 89:34
“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” ~ Matthew 5:18-19 (Yeshua the Messiah)
