The city of Damascus is one of the oldest cities still in existence in the world today, with over 5,000 years of history.  Over the course of its history, it has yet to experience the horror of what has been prophesied by both Isaiah and Jeremiah to occur in the time of the latter days. Today, we see the city of Damascus engaged in “civil war” (though outside forces are at work), and we see the US and Britain on the verge of attacking the Syrian government forces in Damascus.  We also have Syria, Russia and China warning of a firestorm of violence and war in the region if the US were to strike Syria.  Syria is also threatening to attack Jerusalem in defense if they come under attack.  We are witnessing the fulfillment of prophecy in our day. In this fulfillment of prophecy, God speaks.  He reveals that he truly knows the end from the beginning.  He reveals “I am here.” He reveals “I am real, and my word is true.”  Let’s look to these prophecies to see what is written:

Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail. How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy! Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord of hosts. And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad ~ Jeremiah 49:23-27

Here Jeremiah reveals in detail the exact situation that is a reality today.  This prophecy is on the verge of fulfillment.  The situation in Syria, Damascus especially is dire- men, women and children are fleeing as they fear for their lives.  One million children are now Syrian refugees who have escaped the war torn region. Attack after attack, the situation worsens. Just this week, a shady chemical weapons attack had no respect of persons, killing men, women and children in the northeastern portion of Damascus.  We see that according to the prophecy, the military men will be “cut off.”  These things are coming- the Word of God will NEVER return void.  What did Isaiah have to say?:

“The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the Lord of hosts.” ~ Isaiah 17:1-3

Here prophecy indicates Damascus will be made a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer which are located on the northern bank of the Arnon river just east of the Dead Sea are prophesied to be deserted (forsaken).  This also indicates some destruction in northern Israel (Ephraim). There will only be a remnant left of Syria. What is interesting, is that Isaiah continues to prophecy about “in that day” (meaning as this comes into being) concerning Israel:

“And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean. And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim. Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the Lord God of Israel.” ~ Isaiah 17:4-6

This indicates that in this time in Israel, there will be a “wiping out” of those that live in Israel.  Like when you shake an olive tree and only two or three are left. Will retaliatory war against Israel destroy or scatter a large portion of the population of Israel? This indicates a troubling time for Israel yet again where only a few are left. What will be the result?

“At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images. In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolationBecause thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:” ~ Isaiah 17:7-10

Here we can see, that this remnant of Israel will turn again to their Creator.  They will reject the altars they have erected, the works of their hands, the idols and the images they’ve created of God, and they will again turn to the one and only true living God, the Creator of heaven and earth.  Be mindful of the fact that Israel today, including Jerusalem, remains to be a somewhat secular society. He indicates that there will be desolation in Israel and his strong cities will be forsaken, yet there remains an “uppermost branch” that is left because of the children of Israel. This is the remnant of Israel that had forgotten the “Rock” (Jesus) of their strength.

In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow. Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.” ~ Isaiah 17:11-14

Here it seems that a multitude of nations will then come after the remnant of Israel, yet this time God has something else in mind.  He rebukes them! He again protects His remnant! They will flee far off- God probably utilizing supernatural means, signs and wonders.  Psalm 83 also refers to these times in the following:

“Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the HagarenesGebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of TyreAssur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah. Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna: Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession. O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord. Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth. ~ Psalm 83

This is a prophetic verse for these times.  Here you can see that a confederate is formed against the nation of Israel, with the intention to “cut them off from being a nation.”  Here is even listed the nations that will unite to rise against Israel in these times:

Edomites – Jordan / Parts of the West Bank
Ishmaelites – The Arab people
Moabites – Jordan / Parts of the West Bank
Hagrites – Jordan / The Arab people
Gebalites – Lebanon
Ammonites – Jordan
Amalekites – Southern Israel / Gaza
Philistia – Gaza
Tyre – Lebanon
Assyria – Syria / Parts of Turkey and Iraq
The Descendants of Lot – Jordan

These things are at the door.  These prophecies are on the verge of fulfillment. Please prayerfully consider the testimony of Isaiah and Jeremiah.
