In the world that we live in today, to speak the truth brings with it consequences of persecution, targeted anger, isolation, and sometimes even falling victim to violence and death. According to the Bible, this can be expected. The truth isn’t easy for ‘man’ to hear, and it never was. Why? Because it exposes sin, rather than protecting it. It is painful to hear. It wasn’t easy for Adam to hear about God’s anger for His disobedience, and his expulsion from the garden. It wasn’t easy for Cain to hear God’s anger for his act of murder, and his pronounced punishment. It wasn’t easy for Noah to hear of God’s coming judgment of mankind, and to witness the destruction of all of man. It wasn’t easy for Moses to hear the truth about God’s law, and to uphold it among an idolatrous and rebellious people. It wasn’t easy for the Israelites either to hear the truth, that everything that they knew and practiced while in Egypt was an abomination to God, and that they had to change. It wasn’t easy for Saul when he was scolded by God for calling up the dead via the witch of Endor, where God pronounced his swift judgment of death. It wasn’t easy for King David when the prophet Nathan told him the truth about his idolatry, and that His judgment would be the death of his soon to be newborn child. It wasn’t easy for Jeremiah, when he pronounce the truth of the judgment to come upon the Israelites at the hand of Babylon because of their sin. They threw him in jail and shut him up, because the truth was an annoyance to the people of the time. It wasn’t easy for King Belshazzar when Daniel told him the truth of the message written on the wall by a mysterious hand- that he had been weighed and had been found wanting, and that he would die that very night for his sins against God. It wasn’t easy for all of the prophets, who faithfully prophesied concerning the sins of Israel and their coming judgment. They spoke the truth as inspired by the Holy Spirit, and were persecuted, tortured and killed. It wasn’t easy for the Pharisees to hear the truth about their arrogance and sin, by the mouth of the Son of God Himself. They killed him as well.
The truth hurts, especially when it exposes the darkness that is within us. In the Bible, ‘Jesus’, the ‘word’, ‘way’, ‘truth’, ‘life’, and ‘light’ are synonymous. Light exposes darkness in every case by the very law of nature. When light is introduced to any dark place, the darkness fleas and light is shed on everything. When light is applied to the soul and spirit of a human being, darkness is exposed for all to see. It can be painful, uncomfortable, unsettling, and difficult to receive. Speaking or hearing the truth is never easy for the speaker or the hearer. If you are a disciple of Christ, you speak the truth even when it is sometimes difficult. You speak it in love just as Jesus did. As a disciple of Christ, when you hear the truth and it exposes something that needs to change in you, you receive it as the disciplining and chastening of the Father. The question today is, where can anyone go to find truth?
Many seek out churches, where they are told that they are saved, and that they are ok. These same churches track two specific statistics- offering and attendance, as if this is an indicator of success or failure in the kingdom of God. The brethren hear messages that tickle the ears and tells them that everything is swell with them because they came. Then the hearer leaves the building, and continues about their life of sin and death. We have a problem in the body of Christ today- it is the “SIN PROBLEM.” We are afraid to address sin in ourselves and others. The churches lack the ministry of reconciliation, where all are called to REPENT for their grave sins against God, and to be reborn into a new life that looks completely different from anything they have known before. No longer do the churches reconcile men to God, rather they reconcile men to themselves. They teach acceptance of sin, and that no one can overcome it. They declare your sins are forgiven even though you haven’t repented for them yet. There is no change, no new life, no victory in Christ, no true salvation from sin. This is a huge issue in the churches of Christianity today.
The light, and truth can only be found in the Word of God. Remember, Jesus was the Word of God made flesh, to walk among us and show us what it looks like to walk through life without sin. Jesus didn’t tell Mary- ‘go and continue in your sin.’ He instructed ‘go and SIN NO MORE.’ John the Baptist brought about the Baptism of Repentance, and then Jesus introduced us to what the new life free from sin looks like, the Baptism in the name of Jesus for the remission of our sins! They persecuted and killed the Son of God, the author of truth and light. If you are a leader, and you are telling the truth of the gospel to every single follower without the respect of persons, you will know it because many will leave you. They will forsake you, desert you, even persecute you. Why? Because only those written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, the “sheep of Christ”, will hear your message of truth and receive it.
“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.“ ~ John 8:34-47
“Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” ~ John 10:25-28
When we hear from a disciple of Christ, that we are not right with God because of our current sin situation, this is a difficult message to receive. Most people will get defensive and say something like “who are you to tell me……” We find evidence of this arrogance all throughout the Bible when the prophets attempted to bring correction by messages from God Himself. We as disciples walk in the “ministry of reconciliation” where the reason for our existence is to reconcile people to God. Reconciliation only comes by the 3-step rebirth, which begins with true genuine REPENTANCE to God for our sin. If you are living in disobedience to the laws of God which can be found throughout the Bible, you must REPENT, and be baptized with water for the remission of your sins, and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit! Then you will be changed, a new creation with new life and freedom from sin. We must as disciples of Christ preach repentance and reconciliation! If you lie, practice sexual immorality, steal, murder, covet what you don’t have, disrespect your parents, worship idols/altars/objects, gossip, engage in drunkenness, suffer with addiction and the list goes on- you must repent to God as these are sins against Him. Jesus died to break the chains of sin that are holding onto your spirit so tightly. He is powerful and faithful to deliver this promise to us. Do you believe in Jesus truly? If one continues in sin wilfully, we know from scripture that these will not inherit the Kingdom of God. If any of these things are an issue in your life- you must address them, repent to God, be reconciled to Him and become reborn if you want to inherit eternal life! We have a sin issue in the churches today, and in the world. It is a sin problem. Do you receive this message in your heart, or reject it? The sheep of Christ will hear His message and receive it. We pray that all men can examine themselves in the light of the Word of God and be reconciled to God today!
“And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” ~ Revelation 21:27
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.“ ~ Matthew 7:13-14
