Today, many of the protestant churches in the USA, Europe and all over the world are using a new buzz word- ecumenism. This term is being introduced into church literature, announcements, and sermons of most denominations of Christianity. They speak of this idea as a great new path for the churches. It is bolstered as the way of the future, and to the future of unity. Ecumenism defined means: an interdenominational initiative aimed at greater Christian unity or cooperation. The term is used predominately by and with reference to Christian denominations and Christian Churches separated by doctrine, history and practice. Within this particular context, ecumenism is the idea of a Christian unity in the literal meaning; that there should be a single church. The word ecumenism is derived from the Greek word “oikoumene” which means “the whole inhabited world,” and was historically used with specific reference to the Roman Empire. This alone should raise the eyebrow of any Bible studying Christian, as Rome (as well as Roman Catholicism) according to scripture is the fourth and last “beast” of the earth. Even Martin Luther made this identification.
The main driver behind ecumenism today, is the “World Council Of Churches” based in Geneva, Switzerland. For one to truly grasp the motive behind this group, you must look at the origination and inner workings of this council. You must understand who controls this council. To get an idea of how heavily involved the Roman Catholic Church has been in this ecumenical movement and the World Council of Churches, we encourage you to consider an article on their own website: Dictionary of the Ecumenical Movement article on Interfaith Dialogue. The World Council of Churches is nothing more than an orchestrated effort by the papacy to bring all of the protestant churches back to the “one holy, catholic and apostolic church” according to a former description from their own website. This has been their goal since the protestant reformation, where the Catholic Jesuit Order was formed to bring those that had left Catholicism for the Protestant movement, back under Catholic authority:
“In 1937, church leaders agreed to establish a World Council of Churches, but its official organization was deferred by the outbreak of the second world war until August 1948, when representatives of 147 churches assembled in Amsterdam to constitute the WCC. Since then, a growing number of churches on every continent has joined in this search for Christian unity. They have built new bridges over ancient chasms separating believers from one another. WCC member churches today include nearly all the world’s Orthodox churches, scores of denominations from such historic traditions of the Protestant Reformation as Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist and Reformed, and a broad representation of united and independent churches…….The Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity appoints 12 representatives to the WCC’s Faith and Order Commission and cooperates with the WCC to prepare resource materials for local congregations and parishes to use during the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The goal of the World Council of Churches is not to build a global “super-church”, nor to standardize styles of worship, but rather to deepen the fellowship of Christian churches and communities so they may see in one another authentic expressions of the “one holy, catholic and apostolic church”.“
What is interesting, is that many of the articles from the WCOC that YFT USA has used and referenced in the past, have now been taken down from the net. They can no longer be found, all of which link Roman Catholic leadership to the WCOC. One article even speaks of the leader of the WCOC reporting to Pope Benedict at the time. While the Roman Catholic Church is not listed as a member of the WCOC, they are heavily active in the group and in leadership there. We can see many recent articles where the head of the WCOC goes to the Vatican to meet with the present Pope Francis.
In the Pope’s message, You can see his closeness with the General Secretary of the WCOC. A couple of chilling comments from the pope to the 10th General Assembly:
“For this reason, I trust that the present Assembly will help to consolidate the commitment of all Christ’s followers to intensified prayer and cooperation in the service of the Gospel and the integral good of our human family. The globalized world in which we live demands of us a common witness to the God-given dignity of every human being and the effective promotion of the cultural, social and legal conditions which enable individuals and communities to grow in freedom.”
He continues later:
“Conscious that the soul of ecumenism remains authentic conversion, holiness and prayer.”
You can see here, according to Pope Francis- “CONVERSION” is the “SOUL OF ECUMENISM.” This is an interesting statement to say the least that could be taken a number of ways. Given their history, hearing a Pope speak of conversion proves to be unsettling. The National Council of Churches in the USA, is also gearing up to lead Christians back to the leadership of the Papacy. Even on their front page they advertise the article “Church Leaders Celebrate Historic Meeting of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomey and Pope Francis.” I hope that you can see, that these ecumenical councils are nothing more than a covert effort by the Roman Catholic Church to once again unify all Christians under the authority of the Pope (the one, universal, catholic church), all under the cover and guise of peace, justice, security and unity. The crazier thing to mention here, is that IT IS WORKING. Protestant Christians are forgetting today why there was even a protestant reformation during the time of Martin Luther. They are forgetting the total disregard of the Bible that the Roman Catholic Church has bolstered for over 1,000 years. They are forgetting the bondage that Catholicism placed upon the world for centuries. They are forgetting the unrelenting persecution that came from the papacy for anyone that would not convert and pledge loyalty to the Pope. They are forgetting the millions that were killed under Roman Catholicism when they had complete control of world religion and government. They are forgetting the daily idolatry that exists in Catholicism, and their complete disregard of the Sabbath Day. They are forgetting why Martin Luther had to flee in fear for his own life for merely exposing why the Catholic Church was a false Christianity with no biblical basis. They are forgetting that many fled to the Americas to find religious liberty and to escape the harsh persecution and murder of the Roman Catholic Church received by those that wouldn’t ‘convert.’ It wasn’t that long ago in the grand scheme of history that this all happened, yet Christians have forgotten. Many have forgotten that the wound on the head of the beast of revelation, the fourth beast of Daniel– ROME, will be healed and the whole world will wonder after and follow Rome/The Beast (Revelation 13). Please note- the wound on the beasts head equates to the removal of Papal power from the world during the French Revolution in the 1700’s which appeared to be fatal, the Papacy not being restored to power in the Vatican until 1929.
Ecumenism while sounding like a good thing to do, is a movement of the beast of Revelation. If you don’t believe me, just read the warnings of scripture that are given for all believers to read and understand. Ecuminism preaches unity- Christ taught:
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household.” ~ Matthew 10:34-36
Is it Christ’s goal to unify the world, or to judge the world? Ecumenism preaches peace, justice, security and safety. The Word of God warns:
“For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you brethren are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:3
In Ecumenism, men seek unity with men of other religious traditions different from their own in a pursuit to find common ground. Some traditions will be liked, others not so much, but at the end of the day these are mostly man-made traditions in question. In some cases it is a back scratching of today’s proclaimed “holy” men seeking and giving praise for their various man-made denominational traditions, most of which prove to be unbiblical, all while failing to realize that they are being lured back to a life of bondage under the rule of Rome. Traditions of infant baptism, Sunday worship, worship at crafted altars, worship of statues, holy items, holy buildings or places, baptism of the dead, and hundreds if not thousands of others are not biblical- rather they are man-made. Some will say these traditions are ok, others will say they are not. WHAT DOES GOD SAY?
If you desire to be in unity with other believers, become unified in obeying the Word of God that has not changed. Take your traditions to the Word of God, and discover if they are God-made or man-made. Anything made by man will be thrown into the fire. Only things that are of God, from God, instituted by God will remain in the end. If the excuse for your tradition is that the Holy Spirit led you or someone in your church history to create it, then ask yourself- have I tested that spirit? Does that spirit line up with God’s Word? Does the Holy Spirit ever contradict God’s Word, or make it null and void? Of course not! The Spirit of God will not contradict the Word of God. Unfortunately the spirits that have inspired many of today’s traditions are not of God, and this becomes evident by simply reading His Word. Only by testing the spirits of influence using the Word of God will anyone discern what is of God, and what is not.
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:14-17
“And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.” ~ 1 Corinthians 4:6
“To the Law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” ~ Isaiah 8:20
If your church is currently engaged in ecumenism of any kind, we encourage you to be on alert. The Word of God identifies Roman Catholicism as the Beast of the end times. Details can be found on our page “Identifying The Beast”, where we go prophecy by prophecy and line by line to show you how they are fulfilled in Catholicism, past, present and future. We encourage Christians of all denominations to examine your traditions carefully and prayerfully using the light that can be found in the Word of God. Beware of Ecumenism in the world today. It will be sold to you as something great, positive, necessary for society to improve, progressive, yet it is nothing more than a carefully crafted Trojan horse intended to bring unity to the world under one government and one religion. Notice that protestant church leaders in letter and in speech address the Pope, a man that walks all over and stomps on the true Word and Law of God today, as “Your Holiness.” Why do these “men of God” give this designation to a man who clearly and blatantly disobeys God? Not only is Catholicism seeking the unity of all Christians, but they are also extending a hand to Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, etc. for unity. We’ve already been warned by the Word of God Himself. We pray that you have clear eyesight today.
