The Woman Clothed With The Sun
By many, the prophecy of Revelation 12 is thought to be something in our future- as the meanings of this prophecy in the bible were corrupted by Catholic Jesuits with the goal to steer the Protestant movement away from the truth. Regardless, many Protestants today uphold these “futurist” beliefs as they have been taught these beliefs generation after generation. After close study of scripture, you will see that this prophecy is by no means to be fulfilled in our future, rather it is mostly in our past. On this page- we’d like to clear up for you who exactly this “woman clothed with the sun” is, and the meaning of Revelation Chapter 12. In order to do this, let’s first take a look at the period of time Revelation 12 is referencing. Then we will take a look at the entire prophecy and explain. We ask that you don’t take our word for it on anything, as our words are worthless, rather search the scriptures so that you can see the truth.
“TIME, TIMES, AND HALF A TIME VS. ONE THOUSAND TWO-HUNDRED & THREE SCORE DAYS”
The following are two references in Revelation 12 to a time period:
“And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.” ~Revelation 12:14
“And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” ~Revelation 12:6
Please note, there are two different descriptions for the same period of time in Revelation 12. Both of these time periods represent a time where the woman is nourished and in the wilderness. This tells us that “time, and times, and half a time”, and “a thousand two hundred and threescore days” represent the same period of time. Using the day=year principle of prophecy (see “Daniel’s 70th Week Prophecy” page) this period of time is equivalent to 1,260 years (1 day=1 year). You may say- “That’s an aweful long time” and it is. It is through understanding the length of time that this prophecy is dealing with, that we can understand the prophecy fully. Now let’s identify other prophecies in the bible that refer to this same period of time. These can be found in Daniel 7, 12 and Revelation 11, and 13:
“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” ~Daniel 7:25
“And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” ~Daniel 12:7
“But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” ~Revelation 11:12
“And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.” ~Revelation 13:5
As you can see, these are referring to the same amount of time, and the same period of time as well:
-Time, times and half a time=3 1/2 years=42 months=1,260 days= 1,260 years
-Forty-Two Months= 1,260 days= 1,260 years
-One thousand two hundred and sixty days= 1,260 years
From looking at all of the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation together, we can see that this period of time where the woman flees into the wilderness concides with the period of time of the first rule of Antichrist/Little Horn/Fourth Kingdom etc. Let’s take a look at the entire chapter of Revelation 12, and understand what this speaks of. I will split it up to make room for explanations. Please study diligently so that you can see and understand the truth:
“1-5 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.”
-EXPLANATION- To explain this, let’s begin with the last part of this section and work our way back. There is the description of a “man child” that was to rule all nations with a rod of iron, and was “caught up unto God and to his throne.” The only One to ever be caught up to heaven to the throne of God is Jesus Christ himself. This passage is speaking of Jesus, who is born out of the “Woman Clothed with the Sun.” Notice the dragon has 7 heads, 10 horns and 7 crowns, linking it with the Antichrist of Daniel 7 & 8, and the Beast of Revelation. It says that a Dragon stood before the woman who was about to deliver this man child, and it mentions that the “tail of the dragon” drew 1/3 of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. The dragon represents Satan, and this reference of a portion of the angels being cast down from heaven with him as evil angels is clear. The history of angels is mentioned in the Book of Enoch, a book that was widely available to the first Christians, but removed by the Catholic Church. How do we know that this book was available and a part of early Christian scripture? We can read in the Book of Jude 1:14-16:
“And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.” ~Jude 1:14-16
You can see here, that Jude mentions the prophecies of Enoch- yet in today’s bible, there are no such prophecies. This Book of Enoch was removed when the bible was compiled, and if you are willing and able to read it, you will know why. It contains a ton of knowledge and history of God’s works that were done on this earth, in the spirit world, and contains relevant prophecy as well. We can find the prophecy that Jude of the Bible was speaking of in Enoch 1:9:
“And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones To execute judgement upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly: And to convict all flesh Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” ~ Enoch 1:9
Do you see the similarity? Jude quoted the book of Enoch almost word for word, so you can see that the first Christians were no strangers to the Book of Enoch, therefore it remains relevant today. I reference The Book of Enoch, because there is much wisdom and knowledge available there for God’s people, especially knowledge of the spirit world. Satan in Revelations 12 is represented by the Dragon that is waiting to devour the child of the woman clothed with the son. A “woman” in prophecy generally represents a church- and in this case seeing that she has a “crown of 12 stars”, this represents God’s chosen Israel and it’s original 12 tribes. Remember, that Christ was born out of Israel, the Jewish nation. Also notice the moon was under her feet. This symbolism can be seen in the fact that the Ancient Israelites walked according to a lunar calendar, and used the moon to mark signs, times and seasons. So you can see, the woman clothed with the sun represents Israel, God’s chosen people, or the church giving birth to Christ, whom Satan tried to devour but was unsuccessful, and Jesus then was caught up to heaven to God’s throne.
“6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.”
-EXPLANATION- This woman/the church/God’s chosen, during the first reign of Antichrist fled into the wilderness for 1,260 days which is equal to 1,260 years using the bible’s day=year prophecy principle. During the 1,260 year reign of the Roman Catholic Papacy, it is well documented that true bible believing Christians who remained true to God’s Sabbath day had to flee to camps, and into mountains where they could practice their faith without persecution. Throughout this time period, many perished, but a remnant was always kept from harm in the wilderness. This is the remnant of God’s chosen people who obey the commandments of God and carry the testimony of Jesus Christ.
“7-10 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”
-EXPLANATION- Here again is a reference to the war that occurred in heaven when God cast Satan and 1/3 of the angels down to earth. These evil angels are the spirits and demons of today that roam the earth to deceive, control, and even posess Human Beings, Satan being their leader. With the death of Jesus, he triumphed over the enemy Satan and was to reign over the Kingdom of God. This verse also indicates that prior to Jesus death, Satan was allowed into heaven to stand before God and accuse us, God’s people day and night. We can see an example of this in the Book of Job, where Satan went before God and made the accusation that Job was only loyal to God because his life was so good, and he had everything a man could want. As the story goes, God permitted Satan to take away his belongings, which he did, yet Job remained loyal to God. Satan then accused Job again, in that he still had his health, and told God that if his health was taken away, surely Job would curse God’s name. God allowed Satan to take away Job’s health (by causing painful boiles all over his body), but God instructed Satan not to cause Job to die, showing that God remains in control over everything. Yet again Satan was wrong and Job remained faithful. This gives us some indication as to how the spirit world functioned before the death of Christ. After Christ died, as we see in this passage of Revelation, Satan was no longer allowed to accuse the brethren before God in heaven.
“11-12 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (The Catholic Inquisition- persecution of true Christians) Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
-EXPLANATION- Here again we are speaking of the woman- the church or God’s chosen people. It says that they overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus), and loved not their lives unto the death. During the 1,260 year (500’s-late 1700’s) rule of the Papacy (and even prior to that under the rule of Rome), there were what was called “Inquisitions” where so called heretics were sought out, captured, persecuted, tortured and killed. Heritics were basically anyone that refused to bow down to the proclomations of the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope. Many bible believing Christians that remained loyal to God’s commandments were killed, but here we see that they overcame Satan through the blood of Jesus. Their victory is an eternal one. This verse also indicates the wrath that Satan has towards God’s chosen and obedient followers. It mentions that Satan knows he has a short time. Remember that time for us is different than time in the spirit world. Apostle Peter advised us that 1,000 years to us, is like a day to God. This verse does indicate though that Satan will be brutal in his attack on the remnant of God’s chosen.
“13-14 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. (Israel Naturally and Spiritually)And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”
-EXPLANATION- Here we can see that Satan’s goal is the persecution of Israel, the church of the chosen of God, yet this indicates that during this “time, and times, and half a time” or 1,260 years, he will nourish his people and protect the remnant in the wilderness. All throughout this time period, there is evidence that commandment keeping Christians were present. These are also those that kept God’s Saturday Sabbath. Some were captured and killed- yet always a remnant remained in the wilderness in hiding throughout the time period.
“15-16 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.”
-EXPLANATION- Water as a flood, in prophecy represents a large amount of people. Throughout the Papacy rule, there were numerous inquisitions where soldiers and priests in large numbers were sent out to find these Sabbath keeping Christians to have them killed. This went on for centuries, and millions of Christians were killed because of this persecution. In other words, many were “carried away with the flood”. Then there is some relief- “the earth helped the woman, opened her mouth and swallowed the flood”. After the discovery of America (a huge piece of earth), there was mass migration to the USA for those seeking religious freedom. Not only did this give bible believing Christians a huge geographical gap between them and their persecutors, but it gave them freedom to practice obedience to God’s commandments in the bible without persecution. This “swallowed up the flood that was cast out of the dragon’s mouth”, in that persecution of the remnant became out of reach for Satan for a time.
“17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
-EXPLANATION- Here we can see, that Satan is livid- and very angry with God’s chosen, and now goes to make war with them, or “the remnant of her seed”. It is interesting here in that it identifies who God’s chosen are- those “which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” This remnant can be found all over the world, but many can be found in America today as the United States holds the largest population of declared Christians per capita in the whole world. Verse 17 describes for us the time that we are living in today. Satan is angry that he lost control over the saints, and is out to make war with us once again. He will do this using powers, principalities, governments, and please know that everything on this earth is at his disposal. While religious freedom is still somewhat in tact here in the USA, don’t expect it to last for long. The day will again come soon where those that truly choose to keep God’s commandments, and carry the testimony of Jesus Christ will be persecuted unto death. Are you ready? Do you keep the commandments of God AND carry the testimony of Jesus as both are required? We encourage you to read our “Why Keep The Commandments” page and the “God’s New Covenant” page to understand why this is so important for God’s chosen people in the end of the age.
